MITTENT" AND "REMITTENT" FEVERS BY THE HYPODERMIC INJECTION OF QUININE. By Assistant Surgeon, John Candy, M.D., 109^/t Regiment. During the past year, I have made careful observations on the treatment of "intermittent fever" by the hypodermic injection of quinine. The first eight cases were injected in the arm, at the insertion of the deltoid, with a solution of quinine dissolved by the aid of citric acid in distilled water, and gently heated, making a clear and transparent solution; strength gr. i. in 4 minim3. The remainder of the cases were injected with a solution of

Since I have been in Dinapore I have had further insight into the treatment by this plan, and can report most favorably of it. In nearly all the cases I have seen, the fever never recurred after the first injection of quinine. A few cases have required the second application of the syringe, but these were ve...

Haying tried this method in a large number of cases during 1876, I am anxious to make known in part the results of my experience, being fully convinced in my own mind not only of the utility of the hypodermic injection of quinine, but also of its superiority to every other mode of exhibition of this drug, its effects being certain and (as I think) rapid, without a single bad result following in...

After an experience of 1,3)0 cases, in 614 of which he had no untoward result wha...

In the treatment of intermittent fevers in Dispensary practice and in Jail and Police Hospital, I mainly depended in former years upon atees and arsenic, or a combination of the two. Last year no atees was received from the Medical Stores Departments, and arsenic alone had to be chiefly given. The results, however, were often unsatisfactory. Large doses were required to check the fever, but the...

The following cases occurred in the Bustee Jail Hospital, and some of them had been under treatment in the usual way before I commenced the hypodermic method. I have had little or no ill etfects in ulceration, and I think that this is partly due to my immediately after injecting the solution of quinine, pressing and kneading, so to speak, the part with my thumb, thereby spreading the solution o...
